Background
Coffin Creek Angus is a seedstock operation running approximately 300 head of breeding cattle. Reliable access to clean water across their trough systems was critical to daily operations.
The existing windmill pump was labour-intensive and required ongoing maintenance — often at the worst possible time, when cattle were actively using the troughs. Jack approached SPS Solar + Water to replace the ageing windmill with a more dependable, low-maintenance solution.
The bore was 16 metres deep with a narrow 4-inch casing, requiring water to be pumped 800 metres to holding tanks and lifted a total of 70 metres vertically.

The Solution
SPS specified and installed a Grundfos SQF 1.2-2 submersible pump with CU200 controller, powered by a 1.3kW ground-mounted solar array (5 x 260W panels).
The system was designed to pump up to 1,200 litres per hour, with the capability of lifting water up to 160 metres, ensuring consistent delivery to holding tanks across the property.
With solar being the most reliable natural resource on site, the result was a system that required minimal oversight and delivered dependable performance from day one.

The solar bore pump replaced the constant upkeep of the windmill with a low-maintenance, set-and-forget system that has now been operating reliably for over two years. Clean water access improved cattle performance and reduced operational stress — all without the recurring maintenance burden.
