Background

Huntington Estate Winery needed a cost-effective, reliable way to move water from an existing bore to support their operations. Traditional pumping methods weren’t delivering the efficiency needed, and power costs were steadily rising. They turned to SPS Solar + Water for a better solution.

The Solution

SPS designed and installed an 11.16kW ground-mount solar array, paired with a 5.5kW submersible pump (variable speed drive). During peak summer, the system supports 10 hours of solar run time, including 6 hours of full-speed pumping, delivering between 120,000L and 150,000L of water per day using solar alone. A diesel generator kicks in when needed, particularly during winter when solar hours drop.

Impressed with the performance and savings, Huntington Estate commissioned a second project, an 87kW grid-connected solar system to power their processing plant, offices, and cellar door.
