Background
Perry Street Hotel is a boutique luxury accommodation venue operating from the restored 1862 Mechanics Institute building in Mudgee. With 13 premium self-contained suites, energy consumption represented one of the largest operational costs for the business.
The brief was clear — reduce escalating power bills while protecting the architectural integrity of a heritage-listed building. The project presented multiple challenges: a 52-degree roof pitch, a three-storey structure, heritage compliance requirements, and a fully operational hotel that could not close during installation.

The Solution
SPS Solar + Water managed the project end-to-end, including all engineering assessments and Heritage approvals.
The installation comprised a 26kW grid-connected solar system, including:
- 90 PV modules
- Enphase 270W microinverters
- Enphase Envoy monitoring for real-time consumption and production reporting
The entire project was completed within a fully scaffolded site, without disrupting guests or daily operations.

Key Result
The system now produces an average of 139kWh per day, offsetting a significant portion of the hotel’s average 263kWh daily consumption. While roof space limited system expansion, the installation delivers strong operational savings and environmental benefits. Impressed with the outcome, Perry Street Hotel has since engaged SPS Solar + Water for additional projects at their on-farm accommodation at Peppertree Hill — reinforcing the long-term partnership.
